Kigali Connects with LoRaWAN

LoRaWAN Kigali deploys city-wide LoRaWAN network by lead sponsor, Inmarsat, for Transform Africa Summit. This low powered wide area network (LPWAN) infrastructure, uses the JT NOMAD IoT platform for IoT applications.
 
This year's Transform Africa Summit, held in Kigali Rwanda on 10th - 12th May 2017, has Inmarsat showcasing its smart city flagship project.

LoRaWAN flagship project uses the JT NOMAD IoT Platform

Working with Inmarsat, JT has delivered a proof of concept for smart urban solutions. The flagship project in Kigali benefits from using the JT NOMAD IoT platform. As a result, this enables IoT connectivity around cellular, Wi-Fi and LoRaWAN networks. Also, it provides Smart Urban Solutions that can provision, manage, invoice and automate.
 
Most noteworthy, it uses JT's unique IoT connectivity, extending into provisioning, monitoring. Along with diagnosing third-party applications and devices.
 
Furthermore, it enables organisations to deploy IoT applications on a large scale.
 
The potential uses the Kigali's smart city infrastructure is limitless. As a result of showcasing real use-cases, it is now helping to improve the lives of over 700,000 residents.
 
New IoT smart city initiatives include environmental monitoring for air quality sensors. Also, smart buses equipped with satellite internet. Thus helping remote communities with internet connectivity. Furthmore, smart farming initiatives are being deployed in Rwanda, providing long term benefits.
 
IoT technology opens-up new possibilities beyond traditional M2M communications. Thus, enabling meaningful interactions between people and their environments
 
Connectivity is a key part of the success of this project. With LoRaWAN, WiFi and Cellular co-existing together to provide a network ecosystem. Therefore, utilising the right connectivity for the right IoT application.
